2. About TRT Method
2.1 Mission and vision
Mission
TRT Method exists to help riders and horse owners create calm, confident, and trusting relationships with their horses. The mission is to make high-quality, science-based training accessible to everyone, regardless of discipline, experience level, or location. Through clear explanations and practical exercises, TRT Method gives people the tools to understand their horse’s mind and body and to communicate with clarity, patience, and respect.
Vision
We believe that every horse can learn to find relaxation and focus, and every rider can learn to guide with kindness and understanding. TRT Method aims to inspire a global community where training is no longer about control, but about connection. The vision is a world where horses have a life with humans better than nature intended. The long-term goal is to raise awareness of how mindset, management, and clear communication influence both horse and rider. By combining horsemanship, behavioral insight, and mental awareness, TRT Method continues to lead a movement toward more conscious and compassionate training worldwide.
2.2 What makes TRT different?
TRT Method combines modern equine behavioral science with practical, real-world training. It focuses on helping horses understand what is being asked of them, rather than forcing them to submit or suppress their reactions.
Key elements that make the TRT Method unique:
- The Self-Management System for Horses.
- At the core of TRT is the idea that every horse can learn to manage their own level of tension. Through specific groundwork and under-saddle exercises, horses develop what we call a self-management system. This means they learn to recognise when they are becoming tense, and to release tension and regain focus on their own, without relying entirely on the handler or rider. The horse learns to think instead of react, which builds true confidence and emotional stability.
- Restoring Trust in the Horse’s Body
- The method supports both physical and mental relaxation by replacing tension movement patterns with correct movement patterns.By teaching the horse how to release tension in the body, the mind also relaxes, allowing for calm, confident reactions even in stressful situations.
- Calm and Accessible Learning
- TRT is designed for everyday riders, not just professionals. The program offers step-by-step exercises that anyone can safely apply, at home or at the barn, using simple tools and a clear approach.
- The Rider’s Mindset
- The rider’s emotional state directly influences the horse. That’s why the TRT Method also focuses on helping riders stay calm, present, and confident, giving their horses the security to do the same. In essence, the TRT Method is about connection, not control. It helps both horse and rider understand each other, creating a partnership built on mutual trust, balance, and relaxation in every situation.
2.3 Core principles
The name TRT stands for Tension Release Training — the three pillars that shape every part of the method. Trust Everything begins with trust. The horse needs to feel safe and understood, both in his environment and in his own body. When the rider is calm and consistent, the horse learns to rely on that clarity. Relaxation TRT teaches horses how to release tension and find balance, even in new or stressful situations.
Relaxation creates confidence, focus, and willingness. Training Through structured, practical exercises, horse and rider learn to communicate with precision and calm energy. Training is not about control, but about giving the horse the tools to be in control of himself. Together, these three principles form the foundation of every TRT exercise and every interaction between horse and rider.
2.4 Core values and tone
Every interaction at TRT Method, whether with a horse or a person, reflects the same set of values. These values shape how we teach, communicate, and support our community. Calmness We create space for calm thinking and calm movement. Calm energy builds trust, in training and in communication.
Clarity
Clear communication builds confidence. We explain things simply, speak with precision, and avoid unnecessary complexity. Respect We treat both horses and people with respect. That means patience, empathy, and a genuine willingness to understand. Every person sets out to do the best thing for their horse.
Authenticity
We stay real. Our tone is honest and grounded, without exaggeration or pressure. We focus on what works and what truly helps. Support We are here to help riders succeed. Every message, lesson, or reply aims to encourage, guide, and empower with kindness. Tone of communication TRT’s tone is calm, friendly, confident, and caring. It reflects trust in the process and belief in the member’s ability to learn.
We speak as a knowledgeable friend - professional, warm, and always focused on building understanding rather than convincing.
2.5 About Tristan Tucker
Tristan Tucker is the creator of the TRT Method and an international trainer known for his clear, compassionate approach to horse training. With a background in Australia, working with tense race horses and wild brumbies, he developed the TRT Method to help riders understand what horses truly need to feel confident and relaxed. His work combines deep technical knowledge with a sharp sense of empathy, for both horse and human.
Tristan believes that training is not about controlling reactions but about teaching horses how to find calmness within themselves. Through this understanding, horses gain trust in their bodies, and riders gain trust in their ability to guide.
Every element of the TRT Method reflects Tristan’s philosophy. When we train with clarity, patience, and respect, both horse and rider grow in confidence, balance, and connection.
